App: Treasure Hunt Maker Developer: Nigelware Effective Date: April 14, 2026 Last Updated: April 14, 2026
Nigelware ("we," "our," or "us") operates the Treasure Hunt Maker mobile application (the "App"). This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and protect your information when you use our App.
Information We Collect
User-Created Content
Treasure Hunt Maker allows you to create treasure hunts that include:
Hunt Details: Titles, clue text, and final reveal messages you write
Photos: Images you select from your photo library for cover images, hints, and the final reveal
Audio Recordings: Voice recordings you create as audio hints for hunt clues
Passcodes: Text-based passcodes you set for clue unlocking (stored in hashed form when published)
Player Information
Player Names: When someone plays a published hunt, they may optionally enter their name. This name is stored in the cloud so the hunt creator can see who played their hunt
Play Activity: When a hunt is played, we record basic play session data (start time, completion status, and number of clues completed) to provide the hunt creator with activity information
Automatically Collected Data
Device Information: iOS version and device model (for app optimization and compatibility)
Subscription Status: Whether you have an active subscription, managed through our payment provider
Data You Choose to Share
Published Hunts: When you publish a hunt, its content (title, clues, photos, audio, and final reveal) is uploaded to Apple's iCloud servers so that recipients can access it via a share link
Feedback: Any feedback or support requests you choose to submit
How We Use Your Information
We use the collected information to:
Provide the core App functionality: creating, publishing, sharing, and playing treasure hunts
Store and deliver published hunts to recipients via Apple CloudKit
Display play activity to hunt creators (player names, completion status)
Manage subscription status and enforce publish limits for free users
Improve app performance and user experience
Provide customer support when requested
Data Storage and Security
Local Storage
Draft Hunts: Hunts you create are stored locally on your device until you choose to publish them
Play Progress: Your progress on hunts you play is stored locally on your device so you can resume where you left off
Preferences: Your app settings and publish count are stored locally on your device and synced via iCloud Key-Value Store
Cloud Storage
Published Hunts: When you publish a hunt, its content is uploaded to Apple's CloudKit public database so recipients can access it. This includes the hunt title, clue text, photos, audio recordings, and final reveal content
Play Sessions: When someone plays a published hunt, basic session data (player name, start time, completion status) is stored in CloudKit so the hunt creator can view activity on their hunt
Automatic Expiration: Published hunts automatically expire and are removed from cloud storage after 30 days
Passcode Security: Any passcodes set on hunt clues are cryptographically hashed (SHA-256) before being stored in the cloud. The original passcode text is never uploaded
Important: When you publish a hunt, the content you include (text, photos, audio) becomes accessible to anyone who receives the share link. Please do not include sensitive personal information in your hunts.
Device Permissions
The App may request the following device permissions:
Camera: To scan QR codes hidden at clue locations during hunt play
Photo Library: To save QR codes for printing and to select photos for use in your hunts
Microphone: To record voice hints for hunt clues
These permissions are optional and only requested when you use the corresponding feature. You can manage these permissions at any time through your device's Settings app.
Third-Party Services
Apple CloudKit
We use Apple's CloudKit service to store and deliver published hunts and play session data. CloudKit is governed by Apple's Privacy Policy. Data stored in CloudKit is hosted on Apple's servers and is subject to Apple's security practices.
Superwall
We use Superwall to manage the presentation of subscription offers within the App. Superwall may collect basic device and interaction data to deliver and optimize paywall experiences. For more information, see Superwall's Privacy Policy.
Subscription Management
In-app subscriptions and purchases are processed through the Apple App Store. Payment information is handled entirely by Apple and is never collected or stored by Nigelware. Subscription status is used solely to determine feature access within the App.
Data Sharing
We do not sell, trade, or otherwise transfer your personal information to third parties. Hunt content is only shared with recipients you choose to share with via the hunt link. Player names and play session data are only visible to the hunt creator. We do not use your content for advertising or marketing purposes.
Data Retention
Local Data: Remains on your device until you delete hunts or remove the App
Published Hunts: Automatically expire and are removed from cloud storage after 30 days from the publish date
Play Sessions: Stored in CloudKit for as long as the associated hunt exists. Removed when the hunt creator deletes the hunt or the hunt expires
Account Data: No user accounts are created. Your data is tied to your device and iCloud account
Children's Privacy
Treasure Hunt Maker is designed to be used by families, including children playing hunts created by parents or guardians. The App does not require children to create accounts or provide personal information. Player names entered during play are optional and can be skipped. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13 beyond optional player names provided with parental involvement. If you believe we have inadvertently collected such information, please contact us immediately.
