Thorns & Stars is a fan app for readers of A Court of Thorns and Roses. It sorts you into one of seven fae courts. Every day brings new puzzles and trivia across the series, and every point you earn counts for your court in the standings. We are happy to help with any questions or issues.
From the opening quiz. Your answers decide which of the seven courts claims you and which of six gifts is yours. Everything you score counts towards your court.
You can sort again once, under You → Settings → Sort again. Points you have already earned stay with your old court; your streak, your record and your portraits stay with you.
Each day brings a new Inner Circle board, a new Ink word and a new Unmasked character, the same for every player. A new day starts at midnight where you are, and Today shows how long until the next one. Trivia can be played as often as you like; your first run each day earns points.
Tell the App how far you have read, under You → Settings → Reading progress, and trivia keeps to the books you have finished. If a day's puzzle reaches past where you are, the App warns you first and lets you choose. A new book stays out of the daily puzzles for a while after it comes out, so readers can catch up.
Finish any of the day's puzzles, or your first trivia run, and your streak lives another day — solving it is not required. Miss a day and it ends at midnight. Members get a bargain: once a week, one missed day won't end the streak, as long as you played the day before. It is used automatically.
Points from puzzles and trivia go to your court. Courts are ranked by points per active member — the players who scored in that week, or ever for the all-time table — so a small court can beat a big one. The weekly table runs Monday to Sunday and starts again from nothing each week; the all-time table never resets. Each court has a page of its own, with the top of the court this week.
Each week brings a new look, and the App can draw you in it, as a fae of your court, from a photo of you. The portrait is drawn by Google's Gemini image service. Nothing is sent until you agree, in the App, to your photo going to Google. We do not keep your photo, and the finished portrait is saved in the App on your iPhone; you can share it, or save it to your photo library from the share sheet.
One portrait a month is free, from that week's look, and playing on seven days in a month earns another. Members can choose any look, any week, five a month. Allowances renew at the start of each month (UTC). You can stop your photos being sent at any time under You → Settings → About and privacy → Photos for portraits.
Membership is an optional subscription, monthly or yearly; the yearly plan begins with a seven-day free trial. It brings every portrait look in any week and five portraits a month, a bargain each week for your streak, your full record with your place within your court, and Unmasked so far, the characters you have unmasked.
Everything else is free and stays free: all the daily puzzles, trivia, the standings, and a portrait a month. Membership never adds points or extra guesses.
Subscriptions are managed by Apple. On your iPhone, open Settings → [your name] → Subscriptions → Thorns & Stars. Cancel at least 24 hours before the end of the current period, or of the free trial, to avoid being charged for the next one; you keep your membership until the period ends.
Your membership follows your Apple Account: on the new phone, open You → Settings and tap Restore purchases.
Your place in your court is tied to the phone it was made on, and Thorns & Stars has no sign-in to move it. On a new phone you may begin again as a new player. Points you have already earned stay in your court's totals either way. Portraits are kept in the App on the phone that made them, so save the ones you want to your photo library first.
So that nobody ever sees something unkind next to their court. Display names are drawn from fixed lists of words, which also means a name never carries anything personal. You can draw again until you find one you like.
Every question has been checked against the books. If one still looks wrong, email us the question and what you believe the answer is. Corrections reach the App without an update.
Under You → Settings → Daily reminder, where you can also choose its time and turn on an evening reminder when a streak of three days or more is at risk. If a reminder never arrives, check that notifications are allowed in iOS Settings → Notifications → Thorns & Stars.
You → Settings → About and privacy → Delete my data. It deletes your account, your drawn name, your streak and your record, removes you from the standings and leaderboards, and clears the App's data from your phone. Points you had already earned stay in your court's totals as anonymous numbers. The next time you open the App, you are sorted again.

Court standings only mean something if scores are real. Do not interfere with the App or its servers, submit results you did not earn, or use the App in a way that spoils it for other players. We may remove results or accounts that do.
Accounts are anonymous and tied to your device. If you delete the App's data or lose your device, we cannot restore your court, your streaks or your record; points already earned stay in your court's totals.
Portraits are drawn by an AI service from a photo you provide. Use a photo of yourself, and do not upload a photo of anyone else without their permission. Every portrait is drawn as an adult. A portrait is an artistic interpretation, may not resemble you exactly, and is for your personal use. The number of portraits available each month may change, and portraits may be unavailable from time to time.
We check the puzzles and questions carefully against the books and correct mistakes when we learn of them, but we do not promise that every one is free of error.
We aim to keep Thorns & Stars working, but we do not promise uninterrupted service, and features may change over time.
